Genetics Summary test term 1

In genetics, the most important molecule is DNA. DNA is short for Deoxyribonucleic acid and plays a very important role in our life. It carries the genetic instructions needed for an organism to survive. It’s made up of sugar-phosphate backbones and nucleotides that carry the information (adenine A, guanine G, cytosine C, and thymine T). Segments of DNA are called Genes. A gene is a basic unit of heredity passed down through offspring. Alternate forms of a Gene are called Alleles. E.g.: If the Gene was eye color, the Alleles would be Blue, Brown, or Black. To organize and predict the alleles of an organism, a Punnet Square is used. A Punnet Square is basically a table to sort out the alleles of a “family”.

Traits are another important topic in Genetics. Traits can be defined as a certain characteristic an organism/a species has. Some traits are present through natural selection. Natural selection is a process where a trait that suits an organism’s environment stays. E.g, A bird with wings has a higher chance of survival in the mountains than a bird without. Natural Selection is needed for the survival (the state of living) of a species. To survive, organisms need to breed and produce offspring. The process of producing offspring is called reproduction. Reproduction might introduce a change in the alleles of the offspring. If these changes keep happening, the development of the species will occur. This development is stated to be evolution.

the outsiders question

In The Outsiders, Ponyboy’s teacher refers to the “circumstances” of Ponyboy’s life, specifically the struggles and challenges he faces as a member of the Greasers, a working-class gang. The teacher subtly acknowledges the hardships of growing up in poverty, dealing with family issues, and facing prejudice from society due to their social status.                                                                                                        In The Outsiders, when the Socs approach Ponyboy, and he threatens them with a broken bottle, he doesn’t feel scared because he’s filled with a surge of anger and adrenaline. Up until that point in the story, Ponyboy has generally been portrayed as a sensitive, introspective, and somewhat passive character who is more likely to react with fear or hesitation in dangerous situations. However, when he faces the Socs in this moment, he’s been pushed to a breaking point after the violence he witnessed and the ongoing tensions between the Greasers and Socs. This moment manifests his pent-up frustration, and he feels empowered by his anger and desire to defend himself.                                                                                                                                                                                                                        When Darry says, “You don’t just stop living because you lose someone,” he’s conveying the idea that life has to continue, even after experiencing significant loss. Darry has had to step up as a guardian and caretaker for his brothers, especially after the death of their parents in a car accident. He is burdened with responsibility and the emotional weight of the situation, and in saying this, he’s trying to encourage Ponyboy (and himself) to keep going despite the pain of losing their parents and the ongoing struggles they face.

The biggest outsider of them all can be considered Ponyboy himself. While he’s part of the Greaser group, he often feels different from the other members. He enjoys reading, poetry, and movies, which makes him feel somewhat disconnected from the rougher, more violent parts of Greaser culture. His sensitivity and introspective nature make him feel like an outsider even among his own friends and family.

This Monday, the school held an athletics event for years 7 – 13. The event was organised by the school and its staff. It was a fun and exciting event. Here is the blog I made on it:

My Kahui: Mohua

My age group: Under 15s (U15s)

My events:

  1. 100m Sprint
  2. Long Jump
  3. Discus

Results:

  1. 100m Sprint: (13.09 First Race, 12.29 Finals)
  2. Long Jump: (4.12)
  3. Discus: (40m)

The event that I enjoyed the most would be the 100m Sprint. I like running and the act of competing against other people also made me excited.

On the other hand, the thing I would do differently next time would be nothing. I enjoyed everything.

My Physical Hauora was a little sick, since I had a fever at the time.

My Social Hauora was also good as I connected with friends.

My Spiritual Hauora was great too just like the others as I did calm breathing.

My Emotional Hauora was the best of all as the Athletics event was good.
